We just got home from our nearly annual President's day trip to the coast. I had a wonderful time. I slept on the most restfull mattress I've ever laid my bonez upon, ate bunches of wonderful grub, and took in a chilly but beautimus sunset. Here's a few pix of "Ma Nature"puttin' the finishing touches on Sunday & closin' up for the night.

NO FAKE CRAP

Sunday, February 08, 2009

I first found this brand at Powell's Books in Portland, when buying sock stuffers for the DW last Christmas. They make a lip balm that is all natural and quite yummy. Well imagine my delight,(go ahead imagine), when I found this soap at Central Market. Some of you may not know it but I like FOO FOO soaps while my DW is a Lever 2000 type. You won't find me at a fragrance free Temple session, but you'll never find me stinky either. Not that the DW is smelly cuz she's not in fact I call her "Blossom". You gotta love a product that is so straight forward with their claim as to say "NO FAKE CRAP". Not many products can make that claim. I haven't tried this soap yet cuz I still have a bar of my stink pretty soap left but I bet when I do break it out I'll be lemon peel zesty citrus cloud clean. Wish me luck. TTFN

ARMADILLO CONSIGNMENT

Saturday, January 10, 2009

There is a great little shop on Greenwood Ave @ 125th, right next to Chef at Wok. Check out the funky pink vase I picked up for the DW today. The flowers I got @ Central Market, and arranged them myself. My Sweet Pea loves her new vase, but not to marry. The other photos are of other stuff I've purchased there in the past. The most I've ever paid for any of this stuff is 12 bux. They also sell furniture,CD & DVD's as well as womens clothes.
I try to patronize local shoppes when I can. My wife has forbidden me to go to thrift stores, or yard and garage salez, but I've got a loophole with the consignment store. They really do have some boppo cool stuff @ the Armadilla. Check it out sometime. TTFN

BALUT

Thursday, January 01, 2009

Balut: a fertilized duck egg that is a delicacy in many South East Asian countries. How far along the duckling is to being formed before it is eaten is a matter of personal taste. Ever since first heard of Balut, pronounced like galoot except with a B, I thought I'd like to try it. Well yesterday at work I got my chance. It wasn't too bad, kinda a cross between a hard boiled egg and chicken soup that needed salt. It did have some slightly glickky textures, but by the time I got to that point there wasn't much to do but swallow it, there was also the peer preasure and macho angle to live up to. I know it's strange but someday I'd like to eat dog meat, heck with all the taco trucks I've eaten at I've probably had it twice. But it's not the same. I wanna know I'm eatin' it. Preferably the dog that barks all the time next door. That would mean a good meal and a good nights sleep. OK, I made that part up, there is no neighbor dog that barks all night....not any more that is.

Christmas Ships

Saturday, December 13, 2008

It's that time of year again, and the DW and myself are booked on the Argosy cruises "Christmas Ships". We really enjoy it and it's our holiday tradition. I blew it by waiting too long to get on the lead ship, that's the boat that has the choir on it. Alas we'll be on one of the follow boats which has it's good side, cuz we'll be closer to all the decked out private Christmas Armada boats that trail the Argosy fleet. Some of those folks really go all out decorating their vessels like the one pictured here from last year. This year I have a better camera so I hope to get some nicer shots, wish me luck while I wish you a Merry Christmas!!!

Day of Infamy

Sunday, December 07, 2008

Lest we ever forget. These photos were taken 2 months ago when the DW and I were at the Pearl Harbor Memorial. It was very sobering and a place every American should visit. No speaking above a whisper is allowed out of respect for the thousand plus men who died there that day. Their names are engraved in stone. There is also globs of oil that still come to the surface every few seconds as a testament to the men and ships entombed there in the harbor.America isn't perfect, but she's my country and I love it.Pray for her, cuz the attack upon us now is not with planes, guns or torpedos and we need all hands on deck. Peace Out.

America isn't perfect, but it's my country and I love it.

EVOLUTION

This amazing species of bird has learned that if they feed in a field of beans a week before the annual migration, they can save enormous amounts of energy gliding instead of all that tiresome flapping. Ahh yes, nature at it's finest.

WAR IS HELL

Friday, November 21, 2008

This boy's father died serving his country, and that's the ultimate price to pay as well as the supreme service to render. But I'll bet that brave little guy is thinking, "Keep the flag and give me back my Dad".Pray for those in harms way. I'm not for the war, but I am for the troops.

Commitment to Futility

Tuesday, November 04, 2008

So I went to see the Raiders play last weekend and got to see the worst offensive output in team history. It was purgatory. I hardly blame the players, except the quarterback, who held out for nearly a year to get extra millions only to prove once again he isn't worth the league minimum. The aforementioned minimum for a first round draft choice is like 2 or 3 million, this hefty sum given to a kid who has proven nothing at the pro level. The least any first year player can be paid is somewhere in the 400,000 $ range. It must be tough making the rent, huh? But do you blame the dog who barks all night or the owners that allow the mutt to get away with it?? I mean if some senile ol' coot is gonna give you a pile of dough equal to the GNP of many third world countries you'd be a dork to turn it down, right? I blame the owner who pays too much for unproven rookies, micro-manages his coaching staff so that they can't do the job they were hired to do, and won't hire a general manager. This 80 something dinosauer is so out of touch he thinks the Twist is still the latest dance craze.

At least I got to spend some time with my youngest son Rory, I call him Soggy, but don't you try it. I rented a low key, inconspicuous car in which to stealth around Oakland. Ain't she a beaut'??
