Christmas Ships

Saturday, December 13, 2008

It's that time of year again, and the DW and myself are booked on the Argosy cruises "Christmas Ships". We really enjoy it and it's our holiday tradition. I blew it by waiting too long to get on the lead ship, that's the boat that has the choir on it. Alas we'll be on one of the follow boats which has it's good side, cuz we'll be closer to all the decked out private Christmas Armada boats that trail the Argosy fleet. Some of those folks really go all out decorating their vessels like the one pictured here from last year. This year I have a better camera so I hope to get some nicer shots, wish me luck while I wish you a Merry Christmas!!!

Day of Infamy

Sunday, December 07, 2008

Lest we ever forget. These photos were taken 2 months ago when the DW and I were at the Pearl Harbor Memorial. It was very sobering and a place every American should visit. No speaking above a whisper is allowed out of respect for the thousand plus men who died there that day. Their names are engraved in stone. There is also globs of oil that still come to the surface every few seconds as a testament to the men and ships entombed there in the harbor.America isn't perfect, but she's my country and I love it.Pray for her, cuz the attack upon us now is not with planes, guns or torpedos and we need all hands on deck. Peace Out.

America isn't perfect, but it's my country and I love it.

EVOLUTION

This amazing species of bird has learned that if they feed in a field of beans a week before the annual migration, they can save enormous amounts of energy gliding instead of all that tiresome flapping. Ahh yes, nature at it's finest.

WAR IS HELL

Friday, November 21, 2008

This boy's father died serving his country, and that's the ultimate price to pay as well as the supreme service to render. But I'll bet that brave little guy is thinking, "Keep the flag and give me back my Dad".Pray for those in harms way. I'm not for the war, but I am for the troops.

Commitment to Futility

Tuesday, November 04, 2008

So I went to see the Raiders play last weekend and got to see the worst offensive output in team history. It was purgatory. I hardly blame the players, except the quarterback, who held out for nearly a year to get extra millions only to prove once again he isn't worth the league minimum. The aforementioned minimum for a first round draft choice is like 2 or 3 million, this hefty sum given to a kid who has proven nothing at the pro level. The least any first year player can be paid is somewhere in the 400,000 $ range. It must be tough making the rent, huh? But do you blame the dog who barks all night or the owners that allow the mutt to get away with it?? I mean if some senile ol' coot is gonna give you a pile of dough equal to the GNP of many third world countries you'd be a dork to turn it down, right? I blame the owner who pays too much for unproven rookies, micro-manages his coaching staff so that they can't do the job they were hired to do, and won't hire a general manager. This 80 something dinosauer is so out of touch he thinks the Twist is still the latest dance craze.

At least I got to spend some time with my youngest son Rory, I call him Soggy, but don't you try it. I rented a low key, inconspicuous car in which to stealth around Oakland. Ain't she a beaut'??

More Island Beauty

OAHU

Sunday, October 26, 2008

Now I know the wonder and beauty of a tropical paradise. I also know that if I lived there I'd need a 55 gallon drum of Bag Balm. Talk about muggy. The water is so wonderfully warm, it's nearly like bath water. I actually went swimming in the ocean for the first time since JAWS came out. A guy at the hotel suggested we try the pool, to which I responded," I didn't come here to try the chlorine". I mean really. My favorite things were the road side fruit stands and "Shrimp Trucks" If you ever go there I highly suggest a day @ the Polynesian Cultural Center.

FACT: The slide or steel guitar was originated in the Hawaiian Islands and at some point toured and displayed in Nashville, and the rest is Country Western history. Sorry Tex.

Commisioned Art

Tuesday, October 07, 2008

A while back the DW and myself ventured to Boise Idaho for the annual "Art in the Park" with the intent to purchase an article of cool craftiness. You see instead of buying one another anniversary gifts, we agree on something we both like. I've blogged about this before but hey , that was a year ago. Anyhow we found the pot we both loved,(ceramic, not cannabis) and opted to come back for it instead of luggin' it all over the park. Well when Noelle went back to purchase our prized art, some other person of no doubt awesome taste in pottery, had come along and bought it and 4 other pots out from under us. BUMMER. But not for the potter.

The DW looked for a pot that might be cool enough to be our "Versary" art but nothing else would do. The artist/seller informed the DW that they would be at "Salmon Daze" in Issaquack in a few weeks and that they would try to make a pot matching the description of OUR pot they mistakenly sold to the guy with the fist full of cash. Well we tracked them down at "Salmon Daze" but we didn't find one like OUR pot. There were a few cool but smaller ones, so we resigned ourselves to be children of a lesser pot. But when the DW gave the pottery gal her debit card to purchase our consolation pot she joyfully exclaimed"Oh I recognize your name Mrs Mac, I called you this morning to let you know we made a pot just for you."

Talk about fortunate, the Art Angels must have been lookin' after us. It is ever so snappy, don't you think??Our first "commisioned work" Who could say it isn't lovely.

GHANDI? SATANIC?

Monday, September 22, 2008

I the other day I heard two quotes attributed to Ghandi. The first one is " Better to do violence, if there's violence in your heart. than to put on the cloak of non-violence to cover imputes".

I kinda see that somewhat like the words of Christ when he said it's better to be hot or cold cuz lukewarm gets spewed from the mouth. That's my loose interpitation and paralalel.

The second said" I object to violence because when it seems to do good, the good it does is only temporary. But the evil it does is permanent".

I mentioned that those were good words if you follow the Prince of Peace, but a couple of old guys took offense to it and told me it sounds more like the "prince of the morning".

So I ask you what in the Helsinki Finland is wrong with those guys, or is it me???

We had a very nice time in Boise, here are some pix I took. As if you couldn't guess,Mr Potatohead still lives in Boise. He lives the life of a fugitive, on a shoestring, so to speak, trying to stay one step ahead of the Or Ida guys. But they won't catch him cuz that Spud Boy's got eyes all around.

I took these photos the other night. It was creepy and way cool all at the same time. I thought I saw a vampire but it turned out to be an insurance salesman. Then I thought I saw a werewolf, but it turned out to be a therewolf. OK already, enough , it's time for bed. Goodnight all.

Every Member a Missionary

Sunday, August 17, 2008

Well here goes something.....what I don't know. I've been called to serve as the Ward Mission Leader. For a long time now I've wanted to heed the call to proclaim the Gospel, but the thought of actually doing it scared the heck out of me. I've wanted to dive into the Preach My Gospel manuel but have yet to crack it open. And not too long ago I sniveled to my wife that I didn't think the Ward Missionaries were doing a very good job and that our Ward was pretty sucky at fellowshiping and retaining newly the baptized.

Well the Lord has once again manifest himself in my life. It seems he's given me the kick in the pants I've been needing to grow in the building Zion department and use some of the talents and strength that I've been keeping under the "bushel basket" , so to speak.

Having never served a mission I don't have that experience from which to draw, but I have other attributes that I'm sure will serve the mission well. The bottom line is when all else fails I can, (and will) employ the Nephi logic, The Lord called me to this, and he will make a way for me to be an instrument in his cause. I will be asking all of you(in the ward) to get involved on some level. I am humbled and mostly unqualified for this gig, so I must be in the right place...right??

"Who the Lord calls, the Lord qualifies" I'm sooo countin' on it.
